Hello, my name is Maame Afia Oti, but everyone calls me Afia. I was born in Ghana, West Africa and lived in Ghana and London. I moved to the States in 2005 where I lived with a host family. I have a degree in Social and Behavioral Science and Early Childhood Education. I was a preschool teacher but now I am a resident coordinator for an after-school program.
I started babysitting at 15 years old taking care of my younger cousins. But the real challenge came when I had the privilege of living and taking care of two adorable twin boys, who were children of my host family from 2 weeks to 5 years old. They are now young adults and I still enjoy spending time with them. I am very free, outgoing and patient. I am easy to work with and I believe communication is the key. As vice-president of the E.C.E. Club at College of the Desert, I pride myself as a guide and teacher of our children. I have taken extra classes like "Music for children", "Abuse and neglect" and also "Children with special needs" because I want to be fully aware of how I can best assist children. Also, I have experience with middle school children as I worked with ASES at the Boys and Girls Club.
My goal is to own my own preschool in Ghana and help shape our young ones for a better tomorrow. I enjoy swimming, learning and cooking. I believe in hands-on experiences and using the developmentally appropriate practice to help shape your child's mind through fun, love, and care. I am CPR and First Aid Certified and I look forward to meeting and working with you and your young ones.
Pleasure to meet you
